30 Mile Point Light
12 X 18 Watercolor
This stone lighthouse is part of a state park between Buffalo and Rochester. I did two plein air oils when we visited it on the July 4th weekend in 2017. This watercolor is from an image taken that day.
Winter Light
12 X 18 Watercolor
This bed and breakfast is still a commissioned US Coast Guard Lighthouse just west of Rochester. We stayed there for our anniversary in 2018.
Charlotte Genesee Light
12 X 18 Watercolor
Here I tried to capture the image like a Wyeth would with prominent flowers in the foreground and the lighthouse proper in the background. Ala Jamie Wyeth's Iris at the Sea.
Oak Orchard Light
12 X 18 Watercolor
This was the first in the series of local lighthouses I tried to capture. It sits not a half-mile down the road from our house and is a popular attraction in the summer months.
Canandaigua Barn
5 X 7 Watercolor
This piece was produced as an exercise in multiple washes in Larry Keefe's MAG class. I did three of these, each slightly different.
Night Class at MAG. The Memorial Art Gallery, Rochester, NY. 8 x 10 watercolor. 2019
Pineapple Non-Express
these two watercolor sketches where the first set of exercises Larry Keefe assigned to use limited palette and layering techniques. New Gambouge and French Ultramarine make the varying shades of green.
The Pitcher Picture
8 X 10 Oil
This piece was produced in Pat Greene's Sunday workshop on painting glass at the Cobblestone Museum in Childs.
First Mate
9 X 12 Watercolor
This was the final of four exercises completed in Larry Keefe's Continuing Watercolor class at Creative Workshop at the MAG. It depicts his sailing partner, and featured once again a limited palette and glazing to achieve the dark black.
On the Mantel - Watercolor ( 8 X 10) This piece was displayed at RAC for Mary Whyte's visit to Rochester, and as part of the Brockport Artists' Guild summer 2019 show. I particularly like the strong horizontal lighting and the limited palette.
This exercise in painting glass bottles was assigned in Larry Keefe's watercolor class at MAG.
Cricket Box - (Oil, 8 X 10) This piece was an exercise in Pat Green's class and featured an object i'd never seen before. I added the cricket after class to help balance the composition and to identify the object. This is one of three pieces completed during Pat's Sunday afternoon classes at the Cobblestone Museum in spring '19.
This snow scene was the exercise in Pat Greene's Sunday worksop at the Cobblestone Museum in January. Done in oil in black and white then glazed with hints of color. ( 8 X 10)
