The Manaseri's travelled to Sicily in the fall of 2018 and paid a pilgrimage to the home village of Chris's paternal grandfather, Carmelo Manasseri, where his young cousin Giuseppe, Filadelphia's son, literally showed them the town..  This page features some of the work inspired by San Fratello and other Sicilian sites.

Picture
Sunstreak 8 X 10 watercolor This scene high and dry above the Mediterranean is emblematic of the mountain village streets.
Picture
Packed 8 X 10 Watercolor Arches and pavement and stuccoed walls frame a vehicle that looks like it's ready to leave town any moment. Why would anyone want to escape?
Picture
Courtyard 8 X 10 Watercolor. This piece is sufficiently loose and luminous, indicating the colors were true and went on almost effortlessly, like watercolor should.
Picture
The Olive Press 8 x 10 Oil This is the first of the San Fratello images I tried. I think it captures the brilliant sunlight and the ochre tones of the town aptly.
Picture
The Old Door 8 X 10 Watercolor This is the first in the series of watercolors capturing impressions of San Fratello. It uses Larry Keefe's limited palette of five colors, applied in layers.
Picture
Stonewalled 8 X 10 Watercolor Ancient stonework and weathered wood provide the vivid coloration of this image.
Picture
Boarded Up 8 X 10 Watercolor I like the simplistic imagery of the blank wall, the boarded window and the doorway. It feels Wyeth-like in its plainness.
Picture
Uphill Alley 8 X 10 Watercolor The play of sunlight and shadows throughout the midday was captivating.
Picture
Signs of Life 8 X 10 Watercolor The vibrant colors of the pinwheel stood in stark contrast to the grey architecture of this alleyway and caught my eye.
Picture
St. Benedict's Goat 16 X 20 Oil. This goat was the only creature stirring in the atmosphere high above the sea, in the shadow of the mountain that dominates the village background.
